Black Mountain’s First CBD Dispensary Spreading Hope
Trinity Pharms Hemp Co, has a painful yet hopeful reason for existence.
In 2015, Trinity’s co-founder and owner, Jason Ward’s dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. By the time his dad learned about the cancer it was already so aggressive that the prognosis was not good.
Jason began researching and exploring the medicinal health benefits of cannabis and was making plans to get his dad to Oregon or Colorado to get him relief. His dad died shortly after in 2016 – never having the opportunity to experience the benefits of medicinal cannabis. Jason continued to pour himself into studying and researching CBD after his dad passed away. He discovered a couple of key revelations.
“Dad never got to try it. I still wanted to somehow pay what I learned forward to the community.”
CBD Is Not A Recent Discovery
One major revelation from his research was that therapeutic benefits of CBD are not a recent discovery. It only seems that way because it is more widely accepted and openly talked about. But throughout history cannabis has served as a therapeutic resource. Therapeutic affects were studied and published in medical journals as early as the late 1800’s.
So what has changed? Why all the talk about CBD these days?
The Farm Bill of 2018 reversed the prohibition of hemp and removed it from the Controlled Substances Act. Hemp was finally identified as being different than marijuana and other intoxicating substances, and recognized for its many positive uses and contributions.
Finally, advocates and growers of hemp had a green light to bring CBD to market.
The Bill has also opened the floodgates for more extensive research and development of hemp and its derivatives. To date there are over 156 different cannabinoids that have been identified and new ones are design discovered each year, including CBG.
CBD is not Marijuana…But Both Are Cannabis
Before we go on it would probably helpful to generally define what CBD actually is and isn’t.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the Cannabis family of plants. A non-addictive substance, CBD is just one of over a hundred phytocannabinoids, which make up the plants chemical compounds.
CBD is derived from hemp, a term used to classify varieties of Cannabis that contain 0.3% or less of THC. It is the strongest natural fibre in the world and has been cultivated for thousands of years and is known to have over 50,000 uses including clothing, food, building materials, and industrial textiles.
CBD is not marijuana, but both are Cannabis. It does not have the large amounts of THC which is responsible for inducing the mind-altering, euphoric effects referred to as being “high.”
Discovery of an Unrecognized Regulatory System
Another revelation for Jason was learning that our body actually has an Endocannabinoid System.
In the 1942 an American chemist, Roger Adams, successfully isolated the first Cannabinoid (CBD). But it would take about a decade later before Israeli scientist Raphael Mechoulam would discover that THC was responsible for the euphoric or psychotropic effects of the cannabis plant, not CBD.
In 1980’s President Ronald Reagan allocated millions of dollars for researchers to study the effects of marijuana on the brain. In 1988, studies led researchers to the first Endocannabinoid receptor and ultimately the metabolic enzymes that interact with these receptors.
“Our bodies have an Endocannabinoid system, not a zoloft system or an ibuprofen system.”
A detailed scientific explanation of the Endocannabinoid system is beyond the scope and purpose of this article, but a general explanation is helpful. Science is constantly discovering new Cannabinoids (over 150 are known to date). The two primary ones are CB1 and CB2. The receptors play an integral role in helping the body to achieve homeostasis
CB1 receptors are found throughout the body with the highest concentration in the brain and spinal cord. They help regulate metabolism, energy levels, emotions, and memories.
CB2 receptors are also found throughout the body but predominantly in the nervous system helping to regulate organ function, body movement and help reduce inflammation.
Trinity carries three main primary CBD formulations: oils, raw flower, and creams. Each delivery method interacts uniquely with the receptors.
“Regardless of personal views and perceptions, to deny or disregard the implications of use of this substance on patient health and the infrastructure of the health care system is irresponsible; clinicians must be aware of these implications and informed about how this therapy may influence practice in a variety of health care settings, including acute care.” National Institute of Health
Compelled To Move
With his commitment to research and education, the pain of his dad’s recent death still fresh, and the 2018 passage of the Farm Bill, Jason knew the time was right to go all in.
Jason and his business partners became licensed in the growing process. He partnered with a trusted small batch organic farmer and grower, and set out to offer a proprietary full-spectrum CBD oil.
Jason is a Black Mountain native so it was a no brainer to open his store in Black Mountain.
In June of 2019, backed by partners with a kindred heart and mind, Trinity Pharms Hemp Co opened its doors to customers for the first time.
“We love nothing more than educating people on the benefits of CBD. Our mission is to build relationships, and bring our community the purest products we can offer.”
In eight short months Trinity Pharms has helped hundreds of customers who are seeking relief from anxiety, depression, inflammation, seizures, pain relief, sleep, and nausea from chemotherapy. Their passion is evident, purpose is clear, and conviction is compelling.
Committed to Quality & Excellence
The CBD industry is not regulated by the FDA. That is important to know. Why? Because the current state of the market is referred to as the “Green Rush”. This means the entry into the retail space is easy and everyone wants a piece of the action as evidenced by the CBD dispensaries popping up all over.
But buyer beware. Not all products are made the same.
Trinity Pharms is transparent. If you ask about the purity of their products they will freely share the results of their product’s testing results conducted by Trace Analytics, a third party testing company, that grades the purity of every single Cannabinoid in their “flower” (the dried leaf where CBD is extracted from). They are also available on their website.
You can be assured that you will always be receiving the highest and purest CBD products possible when dealing with Trinity.
Committed To Your Well Being
Trinity Pharms Hemp Co cares about you as an individual.
They place a greater emphasis on scientific research, creating pure products, and educating customers over focusing on profits.
They will take time to ask you questions, listen, inform, provide suggestions. Trinity is also committed to supporting you on your CBD journey (in all of its various forms).
Their greatest joy is bringing customers HOPE and relief.
